Each manuscript submitted for publication to the editorial board is subjected to the peer review process, which is based on internationally accepted principles: excellence, impartiality, transparency, efficiency, confidentiality, research ethics, responsibility for work quality, avoiding conflicts of interest.

The papers are submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx format). The file name will include the name and surname of the author (ex. Name_surname.doc). The editor coordinator receives the papers from authors electronically via online submission system and performs their first evaluation.

If the papers are submitted in English and the authors are not native speakers of English, it is recommended that a certified translator or a native speaker of English familiar with the agricultural terminology checks those papers before submitting them to the editorial board.

The initial stage of manuscript evaluation will cover:

  1. content: the manuscripts should address topics and issues related to the focus of the journal, provide a logical structure, meet the rules of scientific writing and include all necessary components (abstract, key words, introduction, material and methods, results and discussions, conclusions, references). The references should include data on previous research relevant to the issue addressed in the paper;
  2. form: the manuscripts should follow the recommendations (font style used, font size, line spacing, etc.) described in the Author Guidelines.

Article size should be between 8 and 10 pages.

After the initial evaluation, the author receives a confirmation message containing information on receiving the manuscript and compliance/non-compliance with the specific requirements for this stage of evaluation.

If the manuscript does not match the profile of the scientific journal, contains serious errors of content and expression and does not comply with the minimum above-mentioned criteria, the coordinating editor will reject the manuscript without proceeding to the peer review process.

The manuscripts considered acceptable and fulfilling the requirements for publication will be sent to two reviewers, members of the academic community and experts in their field, for scientific evaluation.

The reviewers will be selected by the deputy editor depending on the field of their expertise and the topic of the paper proposed for publication.

The reviewers will evaluate the paper from a scientific point of view in accordance with the criteria set in the Evaluation form.

The process of scientific evaluation is completed when the reviewers assign one of the following recommendations:

„The paper is accepted for publication in its original form”;

„The paper is accepted for publication with minor revisions”;

„The paper is accepted for publication with major revisions”;

„The paper is not accepted for publication and is rejected”.

The final decision to accept or reject the paper belongs to the editorial board and it is based on the evaluations made by two reviewers.

The papers submitted for publication by the authors should be completely original and should not contain plagiarism.

The authors assume responsibility for the authorship, the originality of the work, noting correctly and fully the references to the used sources.

The authors are required to confirm that the paper submitted to the editor was not previously published in any other publication or is not being evaluated or accepted for publication in another journal. The journal accepts for publishing the papers that were not or won’t be valorized by publication in other journals or proceedings of conferences, scientific symposia etc. The submission of the same paper for publication in several journals is unacceptable and contrary to the principles of ethics.

The list of authors includes all researchers who made a personal contribution to the formation and interpretation of research results and who participated effectively and substantially to the achievement of the work submitted for publication. Other important people who contributed to the research can be mentioned in the Acknowledgments section, where the sources of financial support of the performed research are usually indicated (projects, grants, scholarships, etc.).

The corresponding author bears the responsibility to ensure that all co-authors were included in the work and that they have read and agree with the final version of the manuscript and its submission for publication.

The journal does not charge author fees for paper evaluation and publication.

If an author finds that there are errors or inaccuracies during the editorial process as well as after publication, he/she is required to promptly notify the editor in order to solve the problem.

If the Editorial Board decides to publish the paper, the author agrees to transfer all copyrights to the journal in terms of publication and dissemination of its content (in electronic and paper form) in open access, its integration national and international database, as well as other similarly indexed information sources.

The editors are responsible for the objective management in the evaluation of papers submitted for publication having the responsibility and authority to accept or reject a paper (if it does not meet publication requirements and ethical principles of the journal).

The editors will make every effort to ensure the integrity of the evaluation process aiming at not disclosing the identity of the author/authors to the scientific reviewers and vice versa.

The editors are responsible for maintaining confidentiality of the content of submitted papers and should not disclose any information about the submitted manuscripts. Only a limited number of people will have access to the content of the paper (reviewers and authorized members of the editorial board). The manuscripts accepted for publication will not be used by the editors or members of the Editorial Board for their own research without the written consent of the author.

 The editors must adopt a respectful and impartial attitude towards authors, regardless of race, gender, nationality, religion, social status, political preferences or other subjective reasons.

The reviewers should make confidentially the scientific expertise of manuscripts submitted for publication, aimed at improving their quality and helping editors in making decisions on the possibility to publish research results.

The information obtained during the peer review process must be kept confidential and should not be used in one’s own research before their publication without author’s consent.

The reviewers should objectively judge the quality of the manuscript, express clearly their conclusions and provide constructive recommendations to authors in order to improve paper quality.

During the peer review process, the reviewers will focus on the relevance, scientific value, originality and authenticity of the research results obtained by the author.

Any selected reviewer should inform the editor if he/she lacks sufficient competences to evaluate the manuscript, the manuscript content does not match its field of expertise or he/she considers that evaluation is impossible to be done within the specified time.

The reviewers should inform the editor about any significant similarity or overlap found between the evaluated manuscript and any other previously published work, i.e. about the cases of plagiarism and self-plagiarism.

Plagiarism or self-plagiarism, in all its forms, represents unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable. If the manuscript includes exactly the same phrases that appear in other works written by the author, the source must be properly cited. In carrying out its work, the Editorial Board of the journal „Agricultural Science” is guided by the international standards and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
